What is the CanadaHelps P2P Tool?
The CanadaHelps P2P tool helps you run your peer-to-peer event seamlessly whether it’s online, offline or hybrid. Manage your event with simple signup and high-impact pages, ways to inspire donors to give and share the event, and real-time management.
It is highly customizable and functional with built-in dynamic content to encourage your supporters such as fundraising progress bars, supporters’ walls, team rosters, and built-in social sharing. We know that running a peer-to-peer event can be a big commitment and require a lot of planning. Make it easier by using a powerful tool that supports you.
What are different types of P2P?
P2P stands for peer-to-peer; in the context of fundraising it typically refers to fundraising that taps into your donor’s peer network and inspires donors to fundraise with you. The most successful events encourage friendly competition. Some of the most common examples of P2P events include:
- “Thons” - whether it’s a walk-a-thon, bike-a-thon or read-a-thon, “thons” are the classic example of a P2P event. A great example and fun spin on this is The Birds Canada Birdathon® where participants invite family and friends to support birds and try birding.
- Scavenger hunt: these can take a little more time to plan but provide ample opportunity to tie things back to your organization’s mission. A scavenger hunt could involve several locations participant teams need to reach and a signup fee that goes towards fundraising.
- Awareness Campaigns: You could run a 24-hour writing or social media campaign where supporters help spread the message and raise awareness for your cause. A famous example of an awareness campaign is Movember, which sees participants grow a moustache in support of men’s health.
- Event - you could run a virtual or in-person event, be it a guided walking tour or a private party, where your top supporters or Board Members invite their peers and fundraise competitively. The Paralympic Foundation of Canada runs an annual ParaTough Cup challenge for teams to compete in Parasport to raise awareness and funds to support the Paralympic movement.
At the end of the day, P2P possibilities are endless. The main thing to keep in mind is an activity in which many donors can get involved, anything from knitting to basketball could work as a P2P event.

Why Charities Love CanadaHelps
“Using CanadaHelps peer-to-peer fundraising is a breeze! Simple to set-up and easily customizable to match your company's branding. You can embed the code into your own website which saves you time which we all need a little more of! It makes it simple to message and manage the participants of your event and provides all the reporting you need.”
“We had an annual walk fundraiser with paper forms for donation collections and we already used CanadaHelps for regular donations. We went from bringing in donations of 12K-15K each year with our annual fundraiser to 35K in one year when we added peer to peer fundraising with CanadaHelps. It was so easy, and our supporters really enjoyed the social media options for sharing too which allowed us to reach more people.”
“CanadaHelps' crowdfunding platform is versatile, flexible and robust. It's easy to use and there are all the options we need (teams & individual fundraisers, custom questions, customizable design, etc). We've used it for several campaigns now and it works great! I would highly recommend.”
